Everything You May Want To Know About Interlocking Pavers

Q:  Why should I select Evo Pavers interlocking paving stones over other materials?

A:  There many reasons to choose interlocking paver stones over other materials.
Pavers can be used in any climate and can be walked on immediately upon installation. Paver allow for easy access to underground utilities such as sprinkler or electrical lines. Once paver are re-installed there is no sign that they were ever removed in the first place. Cracking, which is common with traditional asphalt and concrete pavements, is not an issue with pavers mainly due to the joint sand between the edges of the pavers. Interlocking concrete pavers are a flexible system and allow for movement. They are nearly indestructible because the pavement system moves in unison with the earth’s tendency to swell and contract over time.  This reduces the risk of serious damage.

Q:  What is Evo Pavers warranty?

A:  Evo Pavers is proud to offer a lifetime warranty on all interlocking concrete pavers.  Ask your sales rep for specifics and a copy of our warranty policy.

Q:  Is Evo Pavers a licensed contractor?

A:  Yes, Evo Pavers is a licensed contractor in the State of California. (CA Lic #1018917)  Our license covers many different categories and services, including but not limited to Pavers, Turf, Landscaping, General Contracting and Engineering.   We operate under the trade names:  Evo Pavers, Evo Turf and Evo Scapes.

Q: Can the edges of the interlocking paving stones be curved?

A: Yes! Thanks to our highly trained and educated installation crews, your custom interlocking paver design will fit any design, shape, step or wall configuration.

Q:  What is used to hold the edge of the pavers?

A:  Concrete or a plastic edge beam is installed around the edges of your patio, deck or driveway to protect the interlocking pavers from lateral movement.

Q:  Can I drive cars, trucks and heavy vehicles over driveway paving stones?

A:  Yes, no problem!  Evo Turf driveway pavers are designed to withstand the heavy wear and tear of RVs, motor homes, buses and more. Please let us know about heavy traffic so that he can advise our installers accordingly.

Q:  Should I worry about gaps or edges?  Will my job be level enough to play/ride/skate/walk on with high heels?

A:  Evo Paver installations are always installed to be as level as possible. However, feel free to tell us of any specific concerns you may have. Because there are so many great paving stones to choose from, the more information you give us, the easier it will be for us to make the appropriate recommendation.

Q:  How long will my job take?  Must I wait to drive/walk on my interlocking paving stones after they’re installed?

A:  That’s the great part…  there’s no down time required! You can walk & drive on your interlocking pavers right away.

Q: How long do concrete pavers last?

A: In Europe, they have seen pavers last over 50 years. This is much longer than other pavements under normal residential use.  The longevity of your pavers will depend on the quality of material and the competence of your installation crew.  That is why we suggest going with Evo Pavers.  We are trained and certified and use only the best quality materials.

Q:  Can I stop or control weeds and grass from coming up in my paver patio or walkway?

A:  Yes for the most part, if your pavers are installed properly and a tamper  was used on the pavers to lock them into place, much of the growing environment has been eliminated.   There will still be times when seeds can blow in and start growing in the sand between the cracks. When this happens, you can usually pull them out very easily or spray them with a weed killer and remove them. The use of Sealant also helps prevent vegetation growth.

Q:  Can I replace a paver if broken or stained?

A: Yes, you can be assured of replacement pavers by keeping extras from the job. When replacing a paver, scrape out the sand in the joints from those surrounding the paver to be removed. Use two screwdrivers to wiggle the paver out. Others can be removed by hand. Insert the new paver, replace the joint sand, and compact the paver into place with a rubber mallet.

Q: What is the smallest job your company will handle?
A:  Evo Pavers typically has a minimum of 300 s/f,  but exceptions apply.  Give us a call to discuss your project.

Q:  What is required for demolition of my existing concrete/asphalt?  How much will it cost?

A:  Typically the cost of demolition and removal is not included in the cost per square foot.    Costs range depending on some key factors, like access, price of paving stone material, laying pattern and color combinations etc. An average price for a standard paver installation, not including demolition could be $8.99 to $16 per sq. ft..

Q:  How long will my project take?

A: From demolition to completion in most circumstances a 500 sq. ft. driveway will take 2-3 days and patios 3 to 4 days.

Q: Is sealing my pavers a must?

A: Sealer is an option due to the fact that if you do get a blemish on some paving stones, they can be removed and replaced. However it is recommended because it will enhance and preserve the beauty of your paving stones as well as making blemishes easier to remove due to their in-ability to penetrate the stone.

Q:  What is the benefit of using joint stabilizer or expanding joint sand?

A: Interlock is achieved from pressurized sand joints and most paving systems don’t require a joint stabilizer, however some paving stone profiles allow larger joining surfaces and this leads to sand loss under hose pressure. A joint stabilizer will bond the sand particles together creating a more solid yet flexible joint that will hold up to the elements.

Q: What brand of paver is better?

A:  Evo Pavers only uses the highest quality pavers from the most reputable companies.  Don’t be fooled by low cost bids that appear to be “To good to be true”.   Low cost pavers COST LESS but please understand that you get what you pay for.   The qualities that make a paver perfect are its compressive strength, water absorption rate and abrasion index.  For more information please give us a call.

Q: What happens if I have to do a repair job below the paving? Does it leave an unsightly patch mark?

A: No, that is one of the long term benefits to installing Flexible paving. Because all interlocking paving is flexible it can also resist cracking. This is especially beneficial in California which has very expansive soils.  Ask your Evo sales rep about keeping a few extra replacement pavers.

Q: Can you do any other types of specialty masonry?

A: Yes, our trained and certified installers are masonry ninjas.  We pride ourselves on creating works of art!   Outdoor living areas, bbq’s, fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, stack walls, stack stone, columns, pool decks and much more are no problem.  Check out our photo gallery for some examples of our craftsmanship.

Q: What does “Interlocking Paving” mean?

A: Interlocking paving is a misleading term. What actually constitutes interlocking is really a dynamic function containing three different components. They are “rotational interlock” (resistance to tipping) “horizontal interlock” (resistance to spreading) “vertical interlock (resistance to sinking)”.  So, that means for lasting quality you need good containment, good sub base and proper paver thickness.  These factors used in combination create “Interlocking”.

Q: After you’re done installing my pavers, should I Seal It?

A: Yes, it protects it from leaky cars that might leave oil stains and it stays cleaner for much longer if you seal it right away before it has a chance to get stained. Remember when it’s sealed it only takes a hose to clean it off. We use breathable type sealers that protect against just about anything.  Ask your Evo Pavers sales representative about cost and maintenance.   Or click here to see our suggested maintenance section:  www.evopavers.com/????????????
